OVERVIEW – Identifying and preparing leaders in a District requires the efforts and collaboration of a team of dedicated, knowledgeable and experienced Lions who understand the needs for constructive leadership
development. Each District has a Global Leadership Team; that comprises a District Global Leadership Team Coordinator and the District Governor Team, with the Second Vice District Governor serving as a Liaison Officer to the DG Team.
- The District GLT Coordinator will work in cooperation with the District Global Membership Team (D-GMT) Coordinator as the core members in the leadership development and membership growth/retention program. Resources concerning the purpose, structure, activities and tools used by
Global Leadership Team are available on the Lions Clubs International website.
- The Global Leadership Team is the key to the future viability of Lions Clubs International as the largest humanitarian service organisation in the world. The level of energy and effectiveness of district leaders depends on the availability of leaders who are well trained, guided and prepared for their leadership position. New leaders are identified to provide effective training and development programs for such purpose.
- The initial responsibility of the Global Leadership Team is to conduct assessments and analysis to determine whether the local leadership development needs are met. The assessments form the basis of leadership development road maps that can ensure the continuation of the successful development programs and the introduction of new programs whenever and wherever needed.
- As lion leaders, it is imperative to support and encourage the development of current and future leadership with the available resources to achieve the goals along the road maps. Supporting leadership development is an essential part for succession as successful past leaders. Clear definition of the leadership development goals will ensure the effective leadership will thrive in the District and will create a legacy of effective great leaders for the future.
